DOCOMO PACIFIC ACHIEVES NEXT MAJOR MILESTONE FOR “ATISA” SUBMARINE CABLE: COMPLETION OF THE MARINE SURVEYS FOR GUAM, SAIPAN, ROTA, AND TINIAN
Tamuning, Guam – DOCOMO PACIFIC achieves another important milestone in deploying the ATISA submarine cable by completing the marine surveys of the undersea path leading to the cable landing sites on Guam, Saipan, Rota, and Tinian, which is the next step in the route selection process.
The selection process was a joint team effort by representatives from NEC Corporation, Duenas, Camacho and Associates (DCA), and DOCOMO PACIFIC. With permitting and environmental impact being the keys to the overall project, DOCOMO PACIFIC and its partners continue to diligently work with local and federal agencies to minimize any risks to present ecosystems.

Our 3-part marine survey works to ensure that the laying of the fiber optic cable will minimize disturbance of the undersea environment to the greatest extent possible. This would not be possible without local, federal, and environmental agency assistance.Liezl Balan, DOCOMO PACIFIC's Project Manager for ATISA
UK-based Titan Environmental Surveys, Ltd., a division of Gardline Marine Sciences, Ltd. conducted the inshore and deep water surveys using their vessel, the M/V Duke.
Getting in the water is a critical milestone for Project ATISA. We are eager to share our progress with the community because this is another step on the path towards improved economic and social opportunities for the people of the CNMI. Through the great team effort of our partners, NEC and DCA, as well as our DOCOMO PACIFIC associates, Project ATISA remains on schedule for a mid-2017 launch.Jonathan Kriegel, President & CEO of DOCOMO PACIFIC
Proposed landing sites and associated cable routes on each island were selected in accordance with environmental regulations and logistical requirements. Following the completion of inshore and offshore pre-surveys in late June, a closer inspection of the route was conducted in early July, by highly qualified and independent professional divers, who followed the intended routes to document any potential environmental impacts.
Given the global movement towards the digital age, the economic future of the CNMI depends on its interconnection with the rest of the world. DOCOMO PACIFIC is committed to investing in our region’s potential by providing a wider range of telecommunication solutions at reasonable prices.
